The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir to encourage the youth to pursue higher studies outside their State.
The scheme launched in 2011 for the students aspiring to take admission in undergraduate technical and general degree courses outside the state has landed the future of around 5000 beneficiaries in the dark.
The Ministry of Human Resources Development has not yet confirmed the scholarships in favor of the candidates. The increasing uncertainty among the students has far reaching ramifications on their psychological state. The principal message from the side of suffering students is that the scheme has jeopardized their careers. A common Kashmiri is mindful of his culture and responsibilities and feels humiliated in the atmosphere where he has to continue to live on the sympathy of different colleges and feels it morally unjustified to claim facilities assured by the MHRD under the scheme.
In the above light Center for Youth Development, which is working on the overall development of the youth in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, has been on the job since the very inception of the scheme to make it a sustainable mode of empowerment for the youth of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
CYDhas received a volume of representations full of dejection from the students to help find them ways to address these grievances failing which will result return of the students meaning the gross failure of the promises made by the Government.
We are holding this meeting to raise the issue and send a message to the people at the helm of affairs about the sad plight of our students who are suffering due to the delay in confirmation of their scholarships.
We request all like minded organizations, associations to come forward and join the cause in the interest of students.
